McMillions Review 2020 Tv Show Series Season Cast Crew Online
Stars: Nelson Hayne, Michael C. Pizzuto, Todd Ramsey Moore
McMillion$ is a six-part docuseries about the McDonald’s Monopoly fraud case, in which the biggest prizes from the fast food monolith’s signature sweepstakes were handed to friends and associates of Jerry Jacobson, the security chief of Simon Marketing, between 1995 and 2000.
The docuseries, directed by James Lee Hernandez and Brian Lazarte (who are also executive producers, along with Mark Wahlberg and others), starts from when the possible fraud came to the attention of the relatively sleepy FBI bureau in Jacksonville. Most of the first episode is told from the perspective of Special Agent Doug Matthews, a gregarious type who, as a young agent in 2001, ran with a lead his more veteran partner had received. Matthews figured that a Post-It that says “McDonald’s Monopoly Fraud?” had a lot more potential than the boring cases his office was following.
What he found out is that, despite McDonald’s offering top prizes in the Monopoly game that were usually along the lines of $1 million, the winners over the past five years were anything but random. Even though they all had different last names, the winners were all related somehow. With the help of his supervisors and assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Devereaux, the decision was made to approach McDonald’s security team and get them involved; it was the only way to narrow down just where the fraud was coming from. The idea: Run the contest one more time, as the company had scheduled, to root out the fraud. Matthews goes to the meeting in a gold suit, much to the consternation of his boss and Devereaux.
But first, Matthews proposes an undercover operation, something he suggested multiple times but got shot down, especially because he wasn’t trained to go undercover. But one scenario finally got approved: Film one of the “winners,” Michael Hoover, for a promotional video and, via wiretap, see who he contacts. So with the help of McD marketing exec Amy Murray, Matthews and fellow agents posed as a film crew, and after a multi-location shoot, he contacts the person who had been in their notes as “Uncle Jerry,” who turned out to be Jerry Jacobson.
