House Party 2023 Movie Review Poster Trailer Online
Rebooting old classic films is a Hollywood tradition, and it is clearly a fantastic marketing ploy because it does not need to build an audience by revealing the narrative or concept. Remakes of classics like Hamlet and The Nutcracker ballet show that there is another reason for this trend: they teach the new generation how to view these works in a more modern context. House Party is one such film that has always been a highly awaited reboot but still raises the question of whether it is feasible to successfully adapt a 90s classic.
The upcoming American comedy film House Party, directed by Calmatic and inspired by the unexpected hit low-budget film of the ’90s, stars Jacob Latimore and Tosin Cole in the lead roles. House Party was an instant box office success in 1990, grossing $26 million, and spawned a franchise of five films, the most recent of which being House Party: Tonight’s the Night.
According to NBA legend LeBron James, who is also the film’s producer, House Party will be an improvised version of the iconic movie that takes an altogether new look at the plot. While his remarks leave a lot to be desired, here’s everything we know about the upcoming comedy flick House Party.
The plot of the original House Party features two high school boys nicknamed Kid and Play who organize the year’s biggest party at the latter’s house, and despite being grounded by his father, Pops, Kid sneaks out, unwilling to miss the party of his life. However, it leads to unexpected and hilarious outcomes that the duo could not have predicted.
Unsurprisingly, The House Party Reboot takes the same concept and alters it, as the action this time revolves around two best friends, Damon and Kevin, who work as cleaners at a mansion rather than two high schoolers. They discover that they are on the verge of losing their jobs, so they plan to host an enormous party at the mansion to raise some emergency money without the owner’s permission before being fired.
“When a pair of down-on-their-luck house cleaners discover they’re assigned to clean the mansion of LeBron James while he’s overseas, they decide to make a life-changing decision to throw a giant party in a quest for immortality and some cash. As the party gets out of control and one of LeBron’s championship rings goes missing, they will be launched into a wild night that they will never forget.”
Jorge Lendeborg Jr. and Tosin Cole were the first cast members revealed for the film in April 2021 to play the two main leads, Kevin and Damon. However, due to mental health issues, Lendeborg Jr. had to leave the project, and Jacob Latimore was cast in his place. Tosin Cole is a well-known British actor who made a breakthrough in his professional career as Noah Achebe in the BBC teen drama The Cut in 2010. Some of his notable works include Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Unlocked, Doctor Who, and EastEnders: E20.
Meanwhile, Jacob is an exciting breakout star who has quickly established himself as one of this generation’s most versatile actors, having played Jeff in The Maze Runner, Dante Spivey in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Fred in Detroit, and James in Vanishing on 7th Street. Venus, another co-lead character, was later revealed to be played by Karen Obilom, who has previously starred in films and television shows such as Games People Play, Doom Patrol, NCIS: New Orleans, and Insecure. D.C. Young Fly, Andrew Santino, Bill Bellamy, Melvin Gregg, Tamera Kissen, Nakia Burrise, Christopher Wolfe, Lester Purry, Paris Nicole, Bottara Angele, Shakira Ja’nai Paye, and Chinedu Unaka are among the supporting cast members.
Calmatic is directing the film, as previously stated, through the production companies New Line Cinema, SpringHill Entertainment, The Hideaway Entertainment, and Warner Bros. He received the Best Direction Award at the MTV Video Music Awards for the music video Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus: Old Town Road, as well as a Grammy, shared with other contributors. While the music video is adequate to demonstrate his directorial capabilities, he has previously directed music videos for celebrities like Khalid and Zayn Malik, as well as top advertisements for companies such as Nisson and Turbo Tax.
The script is written by Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori, two upcoming writers in the industry. They previously worked together on the Atlanta TV series in 2016, and we’re sure you’re aware of its success. In addition, Reginald Hudlin, the original House Party film’s director and writer is among the executive producers, while James Lebron and Maverick Carter serve as the producers.
