He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Review 2021 Tv Show Series Season Cast Crew
This is most definitely a Hollywood reboot made in 2021. All the diversity, gender swapping and female empowerment boxes have been checked..BUT.. it actually works. I know. It’s almost shocking how good writing can include all these things while not making the audience roll their eyes and dismiss the entire product. So how did they do it?
First of all it’s a total reimagining. It’s basically a new world with new characters inspired by MOTU. Which is fine. I mean why not?
This means they can do pretty much whatever they want without disrespecting the original ip.
Second; the focus is solely on fun an likable characters instead of hinting at weird “Twitter politics”. For every strong empowered girl on screen, there’s an equally strong boy sharing the spotlight. And they’re actually working together – like a team. I know again.. sounds crazy in 2021.
No one is against social justice. It’s the way it has been presented and pretty much ruined storytelling the last couple of years that has made people sick of it. This is how it’s done. Good job writers.
I wasn’t a huge fan of how heavy the sci-fi outweighs the fantasy though. It’s less Conan and more Power Rangers. Some of the designs work and some doesn’t. The bad guys looks 10 times cooler than the good guys.
Small details that I loved: the 2D looking smoke/dust/impact effects. Blended perfect with the 3D and added a lot.
The drawings at the end of each episode. Very nice touch.
Evil-lyns transformation in particular. Wow.
Overall an ok “parallel universe” type of reboot. Not amazing, but definitely not as bad as I thought after the first episode. If you liked Trollhunters you’ll most likely enjoy this one too. Would definitely watch a second season.
