The reboot of Charmed was announced in 2017 with creator and executive producer of Jane the Virgin, Jennie Snyder Urman on board. The premise stayed tightlipped but it was announced that the reboot would take place in 1976. This concept was canned but a new project reported to be feministic and fighting the patriarchy was later green-lit. The first-look trailer of the reboot has finally been released on May 17 which shows a clear, modern and present-day reinvention of the original plot as follows.

Mother of headstrong feminist Mel (Melonie Diaz) and cheerleading college student Madison (Sarah Jeffery) passes in an unexplainable and tragic struggle at their home. Following her death, Ph.D. qualified genius Macy (Madeleine Mantock) shows at their doorstep with reason to believe to be their sister. With their powers activated, the trio discovers their fate as witches and together, they accept it.
