Review: On Tuesday, comedian Amy Schumer announced on Instagram that her new Netflix special, Amy Schumer Growing, will debut on Tuesday, March 19 on the broadcast platform.
“Ahhhhhh,” he exclaimed in the Instagram post. “I’m having a SPECIAL!”
While joking about his baby’s genre and eating donuts in the video, Schumer broke the news about the new special. “I recorded a special, I filmed it in Chicago for Netflix, it will be released on March 19. I’m very proud of it, it’s called Growing and I think it’s the best special I’ve ever done.”
Shot in front of an exhausted crowd in Chicago, Schumer’s second special for Netflix features comics that offer a refreshingly honest attitude about marriage, pregnancy and their own personal growth over the years. The status of women and conjugal happiness will also influence the comedian’s ticks, but fans of their lifelong stand-up should expect a lot of their characteristic sex talk, loud laughter.
The new special is Schumer’s second with Netflix, which debuted The Leather Special two years ago. At the time, both he and the book The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo had earned him a place on Forbes’ coveted list of the highest-paid comedians of 2017. Schumer was the first woman to be included in the list.
She did not reach the 2018 list because, reportedly, she did not meet the required limit of $ 15 million. However, her efforts to retroactively negotiate a pay raise from Netflix after reports of the huge deals of Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock finally pushed her to the highest levels of comedy.
He also caught the attention of internet trolls who, shortly after the premiere of The Leather Special, designed a campaign of harassment against comics with feminist pride. Specifically, they focused on user reviews on the Netflix and Amazon platforms for the special and the book, respectively. As a result, the ratings of the users of both were significantly reduced before any of the companies intervened to stop the harassment.
Despite all this, Schumer is returning with another Netflix special that reveals how much the comedian has grown in recent years. She is still one of the best paid and most recognizable comedians in the United States, if not the world. So between his comedy specials, television shows and movies, Schumer is here to stay and there’s nothing his misogynist detractors can typically do about it.
In another joke, Schumer tells the audience that she does not think she will ever have to be a maid of honor again because she was the last of her close friends to get married. “When you’re 30, you just do not have dignity, I’m in a halo of Coachella flowers hoping you’re not the bridesmaid with the biggest arm, you know,” she says.
Schumer also touches her difficult pregnancy during the special. “If you had a good pregnancy, as if you were a person who enjoyed being pregnant, I just hope your car falls down,” he joked. “That’s what I want for you.”
The standing special was filmed one month after Schumer was hospitalized for hyperemesis, a complication of pregnancy characterized by extreme nausea. Schumer went to Instagram on Saturday to announce that he had to cancel the rest of his trip due to pregnancy complications.
The special marks the second special of Schumer on Netflix. Leather Special was previously released in the broadcast in 2017.
Amy Schumer Growing premieres on Tuesday, March 19 on Netflix.
