Ilove everything about Christmas—the lights, the carols, the decorations, the food. While I know Jesus is the reason for the season, growing up Buddhist, I always saw it as a secular holiday. As much as I love all the holiday movies across all the networks something in me always felt there was something missing, stories that needed to be told. Imagine my delight when it was announced Lifetime would premiere A Sugar & Spice Holiday, the first Christmas-themed movie with an Asian American leading cast!

Suzy (Jacky Lai), a rising young architect, returns home to Maine for the holidays even though she is under deadline for a project at work. Following the loss of her beloved grandmother who was a legendary baker in their community, Suzy is guilted into entering the local baking competition. Teaming up with Billy (Tony Giroux), an old high school friend, Suzy must sift through her grandmother’s baking diary to find the right mix of sugar and spice to make all their recipes nice. Will she be able to compete in the bake-off while she works on her architectural project for work and succeed at both? Can she and Billy find their own recipe for love?

Jacky Lai hails from Toronto, Canada and is best known for the Netflix series, V Wars, where she stars opposite Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder. Originally set on a career in corporate business, Lai could ignore her passion for acting and ultimately pursued that instead.
