A Place Among the Dead Cast though play themselves on screen but you are well aware of the hightened reality of their performance.

A PLACE AMONG THE DEAD MOVIE PLOT
A Place Among the Dead film uses the vampire genre to explore the repercussions of growing up under the sway of narcissism and evil. In a revealing and terrifying meld of fact, fiction and the fantastical, the film follows an actress/filmmaker by the name of Jules, who is driven by the demons of her past as she embarks on a journey at the potential cost of everything she knows and loves.

Many people would say that Juliet Landau is trying a genre which made her a star with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. We would like to differ on that statement, where in Juliet Landau’s Directorial Debut with A Place Among Dead tries to do something new with genre. The documentarian nature of A Place Among the Dead gives it a distinct vibe where Juliet Landau can direct freely without having to think about visuals.

We won’t say A Place Among the Dead is a perfect movie, the film suffers because it’s niche and won’t have a larger fan base upon release. It could one day become the next Blade Runner, but it took a decade for Blade Runner to be identified such as that.

Juliet Landau with her deal with Modern Films tries to make a film on the promise of making good content but time we’ll only tell how this movie fares. Because Movie making at the end of the day is a mass business, us liking the film doesn’t mean everyone would and should.

A Place Among Dead is not boring to watch because of it’s narrative structure but aside from that it bodes a stellar cast who a play themselves on screen, legends such as Gary Oldman, Ron Pearlman and Anne Rice make an appearance.

Vampires have been a overdone, they are reduced to tropes hence we have to admire Juliet Landau’s guts to have the faith in telling a story such as this which benefits from (as we said before) from the way this movie has been told.

A PLACE AMONG THE DEAD MOVIE CRITICAL RECEPTION
A Place Among the Dead Critical Reception can be amounted upto strong word of mouth as Juliet Landau’s Directorial Debut, it has a rating of 7.4/10 from 16 Votes so far. According to The Guardian’s Leslie Felperin, “The idea is that Landau, as herself, is making a doc with her husband-cinematographer Dev (real-life cinematographer Deverill Weekes) about vampires and evil in general, specifically a local bloodsucker/serial killer named Darcel (seen only in glimpses but credited as being played by both Bryan Michael Hall and Seth Bewley) who makes brightly coloured paintings of his victims. It’s left unclear whether Darcel is really undead or just a psycho with a taste for satanic imagery and cheesy artwork, the kind you might see in a seaside town’s commercial art gallery.”

THE MOVIE CULTURE SYNOPSIS
A Place Among the Dead is not mainly about winning awards for it’s story rather it’s more about whether Juliet Landau could deliver a movie.

When the news broke that, Star Juliet Landau, who is best known as evil vampire Drusilla in the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, inked a worldwide distribution deal with Modern Films for her feature film directorial debut A Place Among The Dead, people would be confused as to whether Can She Direct?

The Movie Culture would like to establish that She can and she should. Hence as we said this film has passed it’s main purpose which was to identify Juliet Landau as an upcoming director and not just an actress which we think will pretty well factor into going forward.
